Welcome to Exminster Community Primary School

Thank you for your interest in our school. The children, staff, parents and governors have created our Rainbow Values at Exminster Community Primary School.

The EPICentre of Learning.

Enjoyment

We want every child to enjoy coming to school, to feel secure in their friendships and to be happy to learn.

Potential

We aim to help every child reach and exceed their full potential through providing a rich and varied range of learning opportunities within a broad and balanced curriculum. Learning is planned in every class to meet all needs. We aim to find children’s strengths and use these within school to develop children’s confidence and love of learning. ‘Be the best that we can be’.

Inclusion

We pride ourselves in being a highly inclusive school. Inclusion is about adapting for the needs of our learners – however minor or major their needs may be. This has benefits for all learners, learning to celebrate our differences and individuality.

Community

Exminster Community Primary School plays an integral part in life of our village. We maintain a strong family village school ethos. We feel it is essential that children develop an understanding of our school family, our local family, our national family and our international family. Diversity and respect are a golden thread within all that we do.

Glen Woodward

glen-woodwardI have been a school governor for over 6 years, and have had the role of Chair of Governors for the last 4. I have worked for National NHS Organisations for over 16 years, as both a Business Analyst and a Project Manager. Both my daughters attend the school (currently in years 4 and 6) and thoroughly enjoy their schooling. The role of the governing body is to both support and challenge the school Senior Leadership Team; and to drive the strategic vision for the school to make sure it is operating at a level that:
- gives all children the opportunity to maximise their potential in a safe environment
- provides maximum value from the public funds.
The role is a rewarding one; and also a privilege as far as wanting to 'put something back' into the local community.

Sarah Whalley

sarah-whalleyGovernors play an exceptionally important role in the strategic running of the school. We are lucky to have such pro-active governors with real areas of expertise needed for the development of the school. So far in my role as head, I have worked closely with governors drawing on this experience. Governors are the school's 'critical friend', there to question, challenge and support.

Dawn Fuller

dawn-fullerI am a Reading Recovery Teacher and early years learning support assistant within school, I also have a daughter who is presently in Year 5 and thoroughly enjoys being at Exminster Community Primary School.
As a parent and member of staff, I feel that becoming a governor will enable me to support the hard work done by everyone at school in a wider role. It is important that all members of staff are represented and through my varied roles at school I feel able and ready to support the wide range of staff within the school.

Karen Sharpe

karen-sharpeThe reason for becoming a parent governor was to be more actively involved in the school as a whole. Being able to see first-hand what our children are up to and how we make a difference to their future is a great privilege. I love Exminster and the value the school brings to the village is something I want to maintain and with even more changes ahead it is both an exciting and challenging prospect to be part of such a journey.

Alwyn Reeves

alwyn-reevesI am a Local Authority appointed governor. My particular interests are Special Educational Needs and the curriculum. I am looking forward to supporting our new Headteacher and the progress of the school at a time of change and positive development

Libby Ash

libby-ashI have been a parent governor at Exminster Community Primary School since November 2011. I am on the curriculum committee, personnel committee and data group. I also attend the finance, sites and services committee meetings.
I have two daughters, one in Reception and one in Year 4. I am always so impressed with the energy, enthusiasm and caring and supportive nature of pupils and adults at the school.
I applied to be a parent governor to support the school and meet the whole school community while representing the views of parents and carers.
I really enjoy visiting school and experiencing first-hand some of the things that we have discussed in meetings. During the visits I have seen and heard, from children and adults, that there is a buzz of excitement about learning at the school.
I look forward to continuing to support the school community in delivering the EPIC vision to all children at the school.

Sue Wilkinson

sue-wilkinsonI have been a parent governor for over 2 ½ years. My children are both in KS2 with my eldest just about to leave year 6 after a very happy seven years at the school.
I work in a village primary school on the outskirts of Exeter and I firmly believe that children should receive a broad and balanced education with opportunities outside the classroom.
It is a great experience being a school governor at this exciting time of growth and change as the School evolves. The school has a great enthusiasm and commitment to the children and it is enjoyable being a part of this.

Jamie Benthall

jamie-benthallAs a father with two children at the school and having only recently arrived in Exminster, I felt it important to support Exminster Primary school in any way I could. By becoming a governor I have had the chance to put a little back in return for the hard work that the school have put into my children's education.

Vanessa Pestridge

venessa-pestridgeI have 2 children currently in the school and am a governor on the finance sites and services committee and personnel. I currently teach part time, work alongside my husband in his photography business and am part of the team that run St. Martins Jnr Church that meets in the school. I love the community here in Exminster and see the school as central to it. I became a governor as I wanted to support the school as it continues to strive to provide outstanding education for our children. I think the phrase 'critical friend' best sums up being a governor because while you do hold the school's staff to account and challenge them you do it as a partner/friend wanting to see the school as the best it can be.

Norman Bettinson

norman-bettinsonI became a Community Governor in April 2012, having been approached by other Governors who were looking for someone with a financial background. Being a former Co-Chair of the School Association, this seemed the logical next step for me to take. I have found the role interesting yet challenging at times - there has been a lot of information to absorb and it has been a struggle sometimes to balance work, home and school commitments. My financial background has certainly helped, particularly in terms of reviewing budgets.
I decided that I had had enough of banking and decided to change direction after 30 or so years in 2009. I now have various jobs, ranging from book-keeping, payroll and administration, to online grocery deliveries with a well-known supermarket and even helping out with a local mobile bar & disco. Life is not dull!
My son Jack is currently in Year 6 and when he moves on to secondary education in later this year, my daughter Emily will be starting in Reception, so it looks like I shall be on the school run for a few years yet!

Becky Mason

becky-masonI have been a parent governor since January 2013. I have two sons currently in Years 1 and 5. I am a PE teacher and School Sport Coordinator based at South Dartmoor Community College. I teach out in many primary schools, run training courses and organise participation and competitive events as part of the Dartmoor School Sport Partnership.
I am the class link governor for our current Year 2s and sit on the Curriculum subcommittee with my link subjects being PE and The Arts. I have recently been assigned the ESA link governor role. I am looking forward to building collaborative links between the ESA and the Governing body, both key groups to our successful school community.
I have learnt a great deal about the running of our school since becoming a governor and have new appreciation and total respect to the dedication and enthusiasm of our staff and other governors! It is great to be part of a team of people who all have one aim – to ensure that Exminster Community Primary School is a happy and successful place to learn and work in.

Simon Palmer

simon-palmerI have lived in Exminster for 15 years during which my 3 children have benefitted from the Exminster Community Primary School experience. So it is time for us to give something back and with some experience in the construction industry I am able to assist with the exciting Phase 7 development and other sites and buildings related issues.

Anthony Krys

anthony-krysI am Anthony Krys, (potentially) the new LEA Governor. I am married to Sarah and our son Teddy is currently in reception.
I have lived in the village for 8 years. I am employed by a small family run ventilation company as a sales engineer and project manager with particular focus on Health and Safety and operator protection. I hope to bring these experiences to my governorship and aid the school in completing ongoing projects. Outside of work, we spend as much time as possible on the beach with the dog. I also play golf very badly and occasionally dust off my guitar to maintain my punk credentials.

Kit Hardee

kit-hardeeI am Kit Hardee, the teacher representative on the governing body. I am an upper Key Stage two teacher and the PE Coordinator at Exminster Primary. I am also currently the chair of Physical Education for the Dawlish Learning Partnership. Having organised many sporting events and some musical events, I have developed a good understanding of the community in Exminster. I am always incredibly impressed with the helpful environment and support from parents within our community. I have joined the governing body to further develop my knowledge and understanding of how the school is run. At Exminster, I believe the staff team have a fantastic working relationship therefore I am very proud to be the staff representative. Having experienced help and advice throughout my career so far, I am now looking forward to helping others.

Ian Beer

ian-beerI'm Ian and have a daughter in school in year 3. I have been a governor for about one year that happened to coincide with the appointment of a new head teacher and the construction of new classrooms, so it's been an especially busy year for the school. My reason for wanting to become a governor is to try and support, in any way I can, an especially dedicated team of teachers and support staff and an active group of governors.
My background is unconventional, ranging from insurance claims assessment to interior management of large private yachts, property development, facilities management and now starting my own small business, so I tend to stick to the sites and services side of the governors varied roll. I am looking forward to helping the school through improvement of areas such as the exterior space.
