This week in Year 1 we have been learning text about our class animals and looking at making our own Top Trump Cards in Challenge Time. We have really enjoyed the new and exciting vocabulary that we have come across.

Year 1 had a great day today as we had some special visitors from Crealy. Marie from Crealy's Animal Outreach programme came to the school with lots of animals for us to touch and hold. We saw some real dragons, three different species of stick insects, a milk snake called Milka and some very smelly ferrets! Marie was very informative and we learnt lots about their habitas and what they would eat in the wild.

Welcome back to everyone in Year 1! The children came into school today dressed up as their favourite wild animal. They also shared a fact about their animal to their peers. The children looked amazing. We had a great day!  

KS1 have been working really hard rehearsing for our Christmas Nativity Story - Wriggly Nativity. We had our dress rehearsal on Monday morning in-front of the whole school. The children were great and their costumes were fantastic!

On Monday we went down to the Church for the Christmas Tree Festival. It was great to see all the hard work the children had put into their decorations up on dispay. We loved seeing what the rest of the community in Exminster had contributed as well. A special thank you to the helpers that  escorted us down.

This week in Year 1 we have been giving each other instructions on how to make a cinnamon snowflake. We have using language such as first, next, after that and finally. We then got to eat them! YUM!

This week in maths we have looking at capacity. We have used different containers and thought about which ones hold the most and why. We have also started to look at how we measure liquids.   

This week in Year 1 we have been using Base 10 to look at the place value of numbers. We have been using this to help us show and explain why 17 is smaller than 71. This has also allowed us to practise our tens times tables. 

We have really enjoyed making different fireworks using LEGO and paint this week. We have been suing some great words to describe what the fireworks look like and sound like. We will be using these words in our own independent writing in Challenge Time. 

In Year 1 we have been challenging each other with the game 'Shut the Box'. We have had to roll the dice, use our subitizing skills and then add the numbers together. We then put down the numbers on the box using number facts we know. 

This week in Year 1 we have been on an season watch and spotting the signs of autumn around our school.

This week in Year 1 we have been potters. We have made our own pots and they are currently drying waiting for us to paint. We had great fun rolling out the clay to make snakes to construct the sides. We also loved getting our hands really messy! 

Year 1 have had a great time this doing their Bikeability Balance course. Our Balance sessions focused on developing balance, rather than the ability to pedal. We have completed an obstacle course, balanced in straight lines and practiced turning corners. It's been a great week! 

We had a special letter and visitor appear in Year 1 this week. The Everywhere Bear has been on lots of exciting adventures around the world and he has found his way to Exminster. He sent us a letter and we sent out a search party to find him. We are looking forward to writing about all the exciting things that the Everywhere Bear will do with us. 

This week in Year 1 we have been learning all about the Everywhere Bear. We have learnt the actions to the story using a text map. We have also been very lucky to have received so many postcards from the Everywhere Bear on his travels all around the world - from South Africa to Bolivia and Malta to Mousehole!

This week the children finished their season paintings. The whole year group's display will up in school so keep your eye out. 

Year 1 had great morning on Monday for their Sports Day. The children did themselves and their families proud with their motivation and engagement in all of the activities. The children said that they really enjoyed the parachute race and found the space hoppers quite tricky as they kept falling off! Well done to all the children in Reception and KS1. 

On Wednesday afternoon, Year 1 went back to the allotment to plant the beans that they had planted before the half term. We had a great time and were really surprised how much the fruit and veg had grown. There was loads of strawberries and lettuce galore! 

Today we planted beans that will germinate in the greenhouse before being planted out at the allotment. We cut and folded cardboard tubes to make compostable pots, filling them with soil and planting a bean. Finally they were watered before being placed in the greenhouse.
