Shrek

As part of the Year 6 home learning, the children have been writing previews for their Christmas play - Shrek the Musical. Here are some of their articles:

Shrek

Shrek the musical-acted by the children of Exminster Primary School-is an outstanding performance played in the school hall. Written by dynamic duo Mr.K.Hardee and Mr.I.Moore, Shrek the musical is a heartwarming show filled with: Singing and dancing that will have you jiggling in your seats along to the music, acting that will make you cry with laughter and weep with sorrow along with uplifting music played by their very own school band!

Join Shrek in his amazing adventure of saving the beautiful princess Fiona and after ups and downs finally realising his true feelings for her. He has help by his excitable donkey, who is probably the most optimistic of all, and all his fairytale friends.

The Super Shrek Musical

The Shrek Musical is a thoroughly inspiring show. A total must watch: the show presents enchanting dances for each scene, including the humorous Duloc dance. The actors were chosen intelligently, it was assured that each junior actor had the ideal personality for each character. Furthermore, the acting is excellent, Shrek has his melancholy, grumpy attitude and Donkey is just his jolly, old self. Fiona has her key formal voice and a few classic fairy tale legends, including Goldilocks, have been added into the show (keep your eyes out for them throughout the play).

Similarities with the movie, romantic encounters between Shrek and the Princess Fiona are present throughout the play. The malevolent Lord Farquaad is included in many of the scenes and he is currently one of the stars of the show. Also, if you enjoy constant action, this show is certainly right for you, the fire breathing dragon adds a thrill into the play, though, the entertaining arena battle scene gives you a tense but humorous experience.

The play has not begun yet; however, it has been a great success so far. Therefore, the school would thoroughly appreciate it if you could come along and purchase tickets in preparation for the show. Your money will be spent wisely because this show is suitable for all ages and it will be an amazing experience for anybody watching!

Shrektacular

Shrek, the Exminster school musical is a delightful and fun filled show to watch. The year six teachers, Mr Hardee and Mr Moore, have adapted the script to add local jokes and some hilarious comments about teachers.

The main characters are played by a variety of year six children and they all add their own personalities to the play. Hannah as Donkey is particularly entertaining. Kieran as Lord Farquad is awesome because he has the same tone of voice as in the film.

Costumes were prepared by parents and pupils and are well designed. Jenna as costume manager, has done a great job and has created a fantastic wedding dress for Fiona.

For the first time ever in a Christmas performance at school there is a live band including Keyboard, Recorder, Drums and Electric Guitar. There are also five brilliant singers showing off the musical talent in the school.

All the classes in KS2 are involved in this show stopping play. There is plenty of dancing, singing and drama throughout the performance.

After the show you are sure to go home singing the uplifting tunes of ‘I’m a believer’, ‘Welcome to Duloc’, ‘All-star’ and more! The finale song, ‘Best years of our lives’, sung by all the cast, is an amazing feel-good climax to the end of the super play.

The pupils of KS2 have only been practicing for a few weeks however this is an amazing production which will delight the whole family.

Watching Shrek is an excellent way to spend an evening and is not one to be missed.

Shrek the Musical

Shrek – performed by Exminster’s year six pupils – is a heart-warming show containing prestigious acting and emotional scenes capable of bringing a tear to one’s eye. Unusually, there is more than one actor who plays one of the three main parts. This remarkable experiment on the show continues its decency because each character brings his or her own twist to the role. Also, it further continues its integrity because each character has fewer lines which means they’re more confident when speaking.

Donkey, Shrek and Fiona are all characters with complicated personalities which the actors deal with fantastically. For instance, donkey was originally played by Eddie Murphy for the film and the role requires a fast talking, excitable actor but this isn’t a difficulty for year 6; the actors have mastered their characters’ manner and can play their roles’ visually and audibly with no error.

To summarise, Shrek the Musical is a fantastic performance that demonstrates the capabilities of children in the 21st century.  As good as or better than some West End productions to date, this show is a must see for all the family.
