1.0 Welcome/Apologies - PR welcomed everyone to a strategic planning night. PR explained we had a little Governor business to be taken care of first but this would be dealt with as quickly as possible. |
2.0 Minutes of Previous Meeting - PR raised the question of the letter to Bellings. BF advised the equipment had now been received so AM and JK could now do the letter. |
PR asked if everyone had received a copy of the Finance Handouts? If not they are to request same from JK. |
PR asked JP if the markings at the new fenced off area had been done. JP advised a further meeting was being set up to investigate further |
3.0 Declaration of Interest - PR suggested everyone had an interest in this evenings meeting. |
4.0 Letter of Request from Parents - PR read out a letter received from Mr & Mrs Palmer, parents to Liberty, Oscar and Kitty (who is due to start school in September 2010), requesting they have time off school from 24 March 2010 until 8 November 2010 to enable them to undertake missionary work in Africa with sick children. Mr & Mrs Palmer have advised they will home tutor the children during the trip. Mr & Mrs Palmer advised they would like links set up with the school so their progress could be monitored and their experience shared. VP advised that their places were required to be held open for their return. PR asked for a show of hands in approval of this request. The Governing Body voted unanimously.
5.0 Chair’s Report - See Attached.
Notes Arising
PR requested a volunteer from the Governing Body to link with PH who is overseeing the Extended Services offered by the School. PR volunteered to do this as she as been on the course but requested someone takes on her link with the maths section. VP suggested AK would be a good choice for this role and will approach AK direct with her reasons for doing so. PR pointed out that AK already had two links so maybe a swap around would be a solution.
JR suggested that it may be useful to explain the structure of a federated school to the meeting as some present hadn’t attended any previous federation meetings. BF explained more fully. Various questions arose at this point regarding the role of an Executive Head and the Head of Teaching and Learning. |
6.0 Headteacher’s Report - See Attached.
Notes arising
The discussion from point 5 re federation continued for a while.
BF quoted from the Autumn issue of “Devon Governor” magazine re the statistics regarding Head and Deputy Heads in Devon.
AR asked if someone who is NOT in favour of federation could come and talk to the school in order to see the other negative issues. VP advised that some research had been done in this area to no avail.
PH and MG are to attend the next Governors meeting which is the Curriculum meeting on 14th January.
BF extended his thanks and congratulations to all the staff following the recent OFSTED Raiseonline Full Report for 2009. KP suggested these results should be publicised in order to attract more children to the school. BF advised this will be in the press around Christmas time. PR also thanked the governors for their hard work reflected in the report.
BF advised that meetings had taken place that Monday with MIDAS who are building around 300 new homes on the edge of the village. Building work will commence early next year. This could mean around 50 or 60 extra children to our school.
BF also met with Christine Channon and Alan Connett regarding the possibility of obtaining a grant to build extra classrooms. Christine Channon didn’t appear to have the same enthusiasm as the previous councillor. MIDAS have already promised the school £300k for this purpose but £800k is required.
7.0 Exminster Primary School 2009 – 2010 - BF set up 5 discussion groups who all went into separate areas to discuss the following questions.
How do we absorb 10% cut in next 18 months?
Are there any circumstances under which we would consider federation?
How do we monitor developments in Devon, or even nationally?
SW collated all the responses from each discussion group and a further discussion will take place at the Personnel meeting in January. |
8.0 AOB - None
9.0 Date of next meeting – 14th January 2009 |
