Welcome to Exminster Community Primary School

Thank you for your interest in our school. The children, staff, parents and governors have created our Rainbow Values at Exminster Community Primary School.

The EPICentre of Learning.

Enjoyment

We want every child to enjoy coming to school, to feel secure in their friendships and to be happy to learn.

Potential

We aim to help every child reach and exceed their full potential through providing a rich and varied range of learning opportunities within a broad and balanced curriculum. Learning is planned in every class to meet all needs. We aim to find children’s strengths and use these within school to develop children’s confidence and love of learning. ‘Be the best that we can be’.

Inclusion

We pride ourselves in being a highly inclusive school. Inclusion is about adapting for the needs of our learners – however minor or major their needs may be. This has benefits for all learners, learning to celebrate our differences and individuality.

Community

Exminster Community Primary School plays an integral part in life of our village. We maintain a strong family village school ethos. We feel it is essential that children develop an understanding of our school family, our local family, our national family and our international family. Diversity and respect are a golden thread within all that we do.

Whole School Gymnastics Competition gymnastic

ROBert explains the corona virus to children | PLAYMOBIL:

The whole world is talking about the corona virus. Daycares and schools have closed, and children are asking a lot of questions. This movie uses PLAYMOBIL to help explain in a way that children can understand what is happening right now, what we can all do to ease the situation, and why it so important to avoid contact with other children and adults.

This week, Year 5 invited Year 3 to visit a Living Museum. Celebrating the end of our Magnificent Mayan research, we wanted to share our learning and make the most of our GOAL time. We chose an area of our learning to focus on. For example, the modern maya and we spent time teaching Year 3 all about it. We created mayan codes for them to crack, learnt how to weave hair like mayan women, designed posters about the stars and how the maya used them and even taught Year 3 how to weave placemat!

Sophie, Year 3 said: "My favourite part was learning to weave a placemat. I can't wait to finish it at home"

Scarlett, Year 5 said: " I loved having Year 3 up because we could tell them new things that they might not know yet"

Year 5 are now looking forward to sharing their Mayan learning in their class assemblies on 8th November (5N) and 10th November (5V).

Cassie Patten visited our school today, inspiring our pupils in sporting achievements and demonstrating our Rainbow Values.  Cassie is an Olympic Bronze medalist for 10k open water swimming.  She told pupils about her potential and realising that she had a talent in swimming even though there were other areas of learning she really struggled with.  She talked about her motivation and how she never gave up.  She showed us a short video clip of her achievement in the Olympics and even had her medal to show us.  The children loved hearing about her jellyfish story and how Cassie has achieved her sporting success.

A huge thank you to Cassie for inspiring us all and showing us how we can put our minds to something and succeed.

Thanks to Jess (Y5) for sending in the winning video clip and to the Dartmoor Schools' Partnership for this opportunity.

Last week we were kindly given some tomato plants and courgette plants from Rosie Grimwood's Granddad, so after a very sunny weekend they needed planting up at the allotment. The runner beans that the allotment club planted have grown so much that they needed to go into the pre-prepared bed where Jack and Thomas had built one of the bean frames. This, with a lot of watering and a little bit of weeding made for a very busy lunchtime!

We have followed some instructions to make a hat for when we celebrate the Queen's birthday this afternoon.

We have followed instructions on how to grow cress and wrote about what we needed.

On Wednesday 9th March, 12 children from Exminster School took part in a gymnastics competition at South Dartmoor Community College.

There were 6 children in a Year 3/4 team and 6 children in a Year 5/6 team.

The children had to perform a floor routine and a vault exercise, which they had been practising and learning over the last few weeks.

They all performed extremely well and should be extremely proud of their performances.

Both teams won their categories and were absolutely delighted with the result.

They have cartwheeled themselves into the regional finals to be held on Wednesday 16th March at Newton Abbot Gymnastics Club.

Congratulations and good luck to all of the team!

In addition to the clubs we run at school, Premier Sport come in to run a Gymnastics Club afterschool on a Monday, and a KS1 Football Club afterschool on a Thursday. If you'd like any more information regarding these clubs please follow the link:

This term Year 3 were asked to create a presentation on Diversity to share with the rest of the class. The presentations were brilliant and there was such a range on show, from food tasting to dance videos. It was a great afternoon!

Coming Soon!

This week has been extremely exciting as we had our class assembly. Unfortunately we didn’t have much time to practice especially the choir check out the school blog and see what adventures we had.  In the assembly we were explaining what we had done with all of our topics. In literacy we have been doing debating.  Read next week’s literacy blog for more.  We had some exhilarating quotes from the parents.  We talked about our science and maths (also future blogs) recently on Fridays for the past three weeks we have been having swimming lessons.  In art we have been doing string printing when we draw a picture and glue some string on and the choose a colour and then print them (unfortunately we have only got to the gluing stage.)

Keep up to date with more blogs coming soon!

We have started this week with a story telling assembly.

This Thursday we have a story telling event, led by Clive Pig 6-7pm, suitable for all primary aged children.  The school office are selling tickets and we look forward to this exciting evening.

Over the past two weeks we have been cycling with an instructor called Sam from south Dartmoor. We have learnt the basics of cycling. We have been weaving through cones and working in a team to win competitive races in 4s. The best teams were the teams that worked together. We had to overtake at the corners. We learnt how to be safe and how to make sure your bike is safe to ride. We learnt the peddle ready position to start races and how to kick off your bike. We really enjoyed it and hope to do it again.
